Homeopathy

The first successful treatment provided professionally was when I was still a student of Homeopathy, in the third year of study at the CHE or Centre for Homeopathic Education when it was based at the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital in London.  A case of severe tonsillitis in a teenager who was about to sit A-level exams in a few weeks time, and the ENT consultant recommended surgery before the exams as the condition was so severe.

Homeopaths have two favourite key terms  ''NBWS''  and ''SRP'' which can give valuable clues to understanding a person's health condition.

''NBWS''  or  ''Never Been Well Since......'' means the condition possibly occurred after something significant happened such as, for example, food poisoning, and a full recovery was never achieved from it leading to chronic digestive issues that have never resolved, and may even require prolonged medications to keep the condition manageable, with their own side effects.

''SRP''  or  ''Strange Rare and Peculiar'' is referring to symptoms which are, well, Strange, Rare and Peculiar!!  Such as, for example,  a child having a strong craving for bitter lemons to eat which is not normal for that child's behaviour.  These symptoms can be characteristic of certain health conditions, and can give valuable clues to the Homeopath as to the actual cause of the condition and the remedy required.

In this case the student had  ''NBWS''  a fall where they had accidentally hit their head on a concrete floor while on holiday aged 5 years old.  They were now 18 years old, and had suffered recurrent bouts of severe tonsillitis, and had required many repeated courses of antibiotics, ever since the fall 13 years previously.

There is a famous key homeopathic remedy for ''blows to the head'', and combined with a few other key signs and symptoms, known as the  ''three legged stool''  approach, they were prescribed the key homeopathic remedy and made a full recovery; they passed all their exams, and the surgery was not required thankfully.

Homeopathy is a very safe and gentle, yet powerfully effective form of medicine.  It can effectively treat many minor conditions which would otherwise need to be taken to the doctor.   It was developed by a German doctor, Dr Samuel Hahnemann (born 1755) , who was frustrated by the current medicinal practices of his time, in the late 1700's, when blood letting and the application of lead and arsenic salves were popular orthodox medical practices.

While training to become a doctor, he worked as a translator of old medical texts and manuscripts.  Some were over 400 years old, even at that time!  He was so inspired by these ancient texts; some even from the Egyptian scrolls who also appeared to have used a form of homeopathy.  He was also strongly influenced by Paracelsus, a Swiss medical doctor 300 years before his time who was born in 1493.  It was through this study and understanding of the old original medical texts and knowledge gleaned from these works that he developed a form of medicine, Homeopathy, which was much safer and more gentle; yet as effective as the medicine of his time, and with fewer toxic side effects.

He became famous as a Homeopath when he was able to effectively treat epidemics of cholera and typhus in the European armies at that time, and his medicine, Homeopathy, became famous for its success and is still used in its original Classical form even today.

In 1900 in the USA, 60% of doctors still used homeopathy and herbal medicine to successfully treat their patients.

Homeopathy is still currently practiced all over the world, and is especially popular in South America and India as it is effective yet inexpensive to produce and has no lasting side effects.
